Coronavirus Update 18th March

All,

Today has been another difficult and changing situation in the maelstrom that is the Coronavirus and I am sure you all want to know how that effects our staff and our customers.

Our priority is the welfare of our staff, both health wise and job security and that our loyal customers receive the superlative service and quality produce that they are used to.

Obviously it is hugely difficult for our customers, particularly our independent trade, including pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and nursing homes. This is compounded by the government advice to close schools and colleges. What I would say to all of you is;  we will continue to support and supply you to the best of our ability and all of our excellent staff are committed to that. This obviously depends on our ability to obtain produce, which is proving difficult with borders closing, staff isolating and / or being grounded. However, the reputation and strength of J.R.Holland is allowing us to source produce where many others can’t. This comes at a price, we are having to pay “up front” for produce and having to pay a premium for haulage to get it delivered from all over Europe and the UK. This is not profiteering by our growers and packers, but simple economics. We will do all we can to mitigate and absorb this price increase, but we will see some inevitable price increases.

To our staff, I would say thank you, you have been amazing!! Our priority is to secure jobs and make sure we are here to both keep you safe and in work. Obviously the situation is fast moving and school closures are a blow. But, we are a strong business and rest assured we will do everything within our power to help you and give you whatever reassurances we can. We will continue to speak to all of you personally on a daily basis. J.R.Holland is what it is because of all of you and once again, I thank you for your hard work, diligence, patience and perseverance.

We shall prevail.

John Holland
